OPERATION HAITI

Dear Partner,

From time to time, we encounter problems with scopes so large that we feel helpless to effect change…. And every now and then we encounter situations where we can make the world of difference. On Tuesday December 4th, 2007 Abundant Life Ministries International encountered the latter and we believe our ingenuity, our compassion and our connections can be a catalyst to cause fifty-four orphans in the nation of Haiti to truly have a happy home. We also believe that this project, which we have dubbed, “Operation Haiti” will bring forth a safe haven that will endure for future generations of the parentless.

Our mission was to take Christmas gifts to Haitian school students and an orphanage, and then to return home. But the plan changed drastically when we saw the deplorable condition in which these innocent children lived. Hole-filled roofs, raw ground as their flooring, no beds, worn out bedding, no food, no running water, sticks and sheets were their school house and yet, they still had smiles to share and hope in their hearts. It was an unforgettable experience. It was so unforgettable that we were inspired and have since returned to the orphanage to ensure the children had food, water, quilting and we have poured a concrete floor. It was heartening to note that conditions were improved for Christmas, but noble as our efforts were… it was, and is not enough. There is much, much more to do and we need your help. Operation Haiti has a plan…

We would like to erect three buildings; one as a girls’ dormitory, with bathrooms… the other a boys’ dormitory with bathrooms and the third a general area which will house the kitchen, classrooms and recreational area.
We would like to find and hire a nurse. This person would be full time and there to respond to the myriad of medical needs of growing children and to attend to the special needs of the orphans.

We would like to find and hire a teacher. This person would also be full time and there to teach the children general subjects to ensure they are literate and in possession of a basic, but good calibre education to improve their prospects of higher learning.

There is much to be done to penetrate the problems of poverty and oppression in Haiti…. But we believe this is a fantastic step and a tangible expression of love and concern.
